I explore the intersection of language, the body, and societal structures in defining female identity. My work is a process of interpreting and reconstructing the meaning of femininity embedded within language. As an Asian woman, my linguistic experiences across different countries have led me to question traditional notions of beauty and femininity. I examine how the roles assigned to women through words and texts become physically embodied and how these structures can be transcended and expanded.

I use traditional materials associated with femininity, such as ceramics and hair. The acts of sweeping, cutting, and weaving long hair are not merely physical gestures but reflections of how society shapes, controls, and venerates femininity. Similarly, the soft, tactile process of shaping clay carries the narratives of care and labor, revealing the ways in which the female body has been perceived throughout history. Rather than passively accepting definitions within dominant language and structures, I reclaim meaning, speak in new ways, and reshape narratives, presenting womanhood as lived and experienced rather than prescribed.

I want to reinterpret femininity by emphasizing resilience, vitality, and strength. Just as hair grows continuously and clay changes form through fire, female identity is perpetually redefined through external pressures and transformation. By breaking down boundaries and rewriting new forms, I strive to articulate and express womanhood in alternative ways. In confronting the contradictions of contemporary society, my work seeks to acknowledge the resilience and vitality of women while expanding the possibilities for empathy and healing.
